Sound Design and Implementation for Unity Game

This project showcases my role as the sound designer and audio integrator for the Unity-based game Skulls. Initially, the game was developed without any audio, and my task was to design and implement all sound elements from scratch. From establishing the auditory atmosphere to creating immersive soundscapes, every sound in the game was crafted entirely by me, contributing to the overall experience of the game.

The sound design process began with analyzing the game’s visual and thematic elements. This helped me define the overall audio direction and mood that would complement the game’s aesthetic. I then used Pro Tools to design each sound effect, layering and manipulating a combination of original foley recordings and imported audio samples. All the sounds were carefully edited, ensuring that even the imported elements were transformed into unique audio assets that fit seamlessly into the game.

For the foley recordings, I took a hands-on approach, recording custom sounds to bring the game’s environments and interactions to life. I used everyday objects to simulate realistic sounds such as footsteps, object impacts, and environmental textures. This creative process added a layer of authenticity and depth to the game’s audio.

To achieve a dynamic and cohesive sound palette, I employed advanced sound layering techniques, pitch shifting, EQ adjustments, and spatial effects within Pro Tools. This allowed me to create rich soundscapes that would not only complement the game’s visuals but also enhance the player’s immersion. Once the audio design was complete, I moved on to the technical side, integrating the audio into Unity. I positioned sounds within the game’s environments, utilizing Unity’s 3D spatial audio tools to create a more immersive experience. Additionally, I implemented audio triggers and environmental effects, such as reverb zones, to further engage the player and enhance the atmosphere of the game.

Throughout this project, I created and implemented every sound element from ambient background noises to action-driven sound effects demonstrating technical proficiency in both Pro Tools for sound design and Unity for audio integration. This was an independent project that I handled entirely on my own, from concept to execution, for a university assignment, showcasing my ability to manage and deliver a complete sound design project.
