Unseen Spectrum
Unseen Spectrum
“The Unseen Spectrum”
is an animation created as part of a university project, aimed at shedding light on the experiences of individuals on the autism spectrum. This project blends visual and auditory storytelling to portray the emotional and sensory journey of a person living with sensory overload and overstimulation. The animation was designed to reflect the internal struggles and heightened emotions that many on the spectrum may face in daily life.
My Role:
I was responsible for all the audio aspects of this project, handling the sound design, audio placement, and editing. The sound was meticulously crafted using Pro Tools, where I layered multiple sound effects and manipulated them with various audio effects like EQ, distortion, and reverb. I aimed to mirror the emotional intensity of the animation’s visuals, particularly during the moments of overstimulation and panic, ensuring the soundscape deeply resonated with the character’s internal experience.
Additionally, I worked as a co-producer, collaborating with the animation students to organize the project and keep it on track. I contributed to the scriptwriting, ensuring the narrative stayed true to the message we wanted to convey. As a coordinator, I also managed communication between team members, ensuring smooth collaboration throughout the project.
The Message:
The goal of “The Unseen Spectrum” is to raise awareness and understanding of the emotional and sensory experiences of people on the autism spectrum. By combining sound and animation, we sought to create an immersive experience that encourages empathy and connection with those whose daily lives may be shaped by sensory overload and emotional intensity.
